ORLANDO — Edwin Díaz isn’t the only elite reliever the Mets are in touch with in free agency after the Devin Williams signing.
The Mets are talking to both Robert Suarez and Pete Fairbanks, per Andy Martino of SNY.
“They’re engaged in the top of the relief market,” Martino said on Mets Hot Stove from the Winter Meetings.
Williams’ three-year, $51 million deal won’t preclude the Mets from signing another reliever. They’re still in on Díaz, who opted out and entered free agency this offseason. He’s the best reliever available and should be the Mets’ priority. With the uncertainty attached to the Díaz sweepstakes, though, it’s important for the Mets to have backup plans and keep tabs on the other elite relievers on the open market.
Suarez, 34, is coming off back-to-back All-Star seas
