Health officials have identified a 'new strain' of a potentially serious virus in England. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has warned that individuals contracting the illness may face a 'serious' infection.

The UKHSA has discovered a new recombinant mpox virus in England in a person who had recently returned from Asia. Genomic sequencing revealed that the mpox genome contained components of both clade Ib and IIb mpox.
