A mysterious streak of light spotted in the sky above Britain was most likely caused by a Chinese rocket, experts say.

Early risers in various locations including Gloucestershire and Devon were convinced they were seeing something otherworldly when the glow appeared.

Experts have now confirmed the display was most likely caused by a Chinese rocket's exhaust plume catching the rising sun during a test run.

In a video shared by Gloucestershire resident Tim Jackson on Wednesday, December 3, it shows the streak of light soar through the sky at around 5:25am that morning.

Tim, who has an All-Sky camera that makes a timelapse of the night sky, said the mysterious light was captured heading towards Cleeve Hill in Cheltenham.
