Council roads chiefs have hit out at plans for a new drive-thru Starbucks in Inverurie over fears it will encourage visitors to take their cars instead of walking.

Perquod Inverurie Ltd is behind the project to bring the global coffee chain to the town on land next to the Aldi off Loco Works Road .

Residents are largely in support of the proposed coffee shop, but Aberdeenshire Council’s roads development team have objected to it.

Their argument against the drive-thru is the same one they submitted when there were plans for a Costa on the same site a few years ago.

Roads officers have hit out at the plans, claiming that the drive-thru facility will encourage car use which goes against local and national planning policy.
