Raul Malo is tough and his fight against cancer has been both brutal and beautiful.

The brutal parts, of course, have come via the twists and unforgiving turns that the disease can dole out. The beautiful parts have come via the outpouring of love that The Mavericks frontman has experienced, and the willingness of he and his wife, Betty Malo, to let fans in on that during what has been a hellish time.

Malo, 60, has shared his battle against stage 4 cancer for more than a year, and at times it looked like things were going well. But he was hospitalized heading into the weekend just months after revealing a heartbreaking turn in his battle.
