URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - Urbana City Council is expected to approve the appointment of an interim fire chief at a special meeting on Monday.
Deputy Chief Tal Prendergast, if approved, will become interim chief immediately. His name is before council after being appointed by Urbana Mayor DeShawn Williams.
According to the council agenda, Prendergast's appointment would not last beyond June 5, 2026. He could be re-appointed after that date.
In October, Chief Demond Dade announced his resignation . The city made the announcement but did not say why Dade abruptly resigned. He had been in the position since May 2022.
Prendergast and Deputy Chief Steven Doggett have been leading the department since Dade's resignation, the city previously said.
Monday's meeting is at 7 p.m. at 400 S. Vine St
