Japan has issued an emergency evacuation alert after a powerful 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Aomori Prefecture late at night, triggering fears of a major tsunami. TV broadcasters have warned that waves up to 3 meters could hit the coastline shortly, urging residents near the shore to move to higher ground immediately .

CCTV footage captured the terrifying moment the earthquake shook buildings in Aomori. The quake struck shortly after 11 PM , catching many residents off-guard as most were at home and preparing for bed.
