A Hamer man has been charged with impaired after being stopped for speeding on Highway 17 near Government Road in Thessalon.

The East Algoma OPP said in a release that officers stopped the driver of a pickup truck on Dec. 7 around 7:30 p.m.

The driver, who was speeding, “emanated a strong odour of alcoholic beverage and displayed signs of intoxication,” the OPP allege. “After a roadside test, the driver was subsequently arrested and (the) vehicle towed and impounded.”

In addition, police found an open alcohol can in the center console of the pickup truck.

Derek Brown, 42, was charged with impaired driving, blowing over 80, dangerous driving, speeding and driving with an open container of liquor.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice
