WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - Jonathan Melendez will see a minimum of 59 and a half years in prison following sentencing for the murder of 88-year-old Rena Eves.
In October, a jury found Melendez guilty of:
2nd-degree murder
1st-degree assault
3rd-degree criminal possession of a weapon
Tampering with physical evidence
Melendez was sentenced in court on Monday, December 8th, to a minimum of 30 years in prison. The sentencing is as follows and will be served consecutively to a prior felony sentence, which landed him in prison for a minimum of 29 years.
25 years to life for 2nd-degree murder
25 years to life served concurrently with the 2nd-degree murder charge, plus 5 years of parole for 1st-degree assault
3 and a half to 7 years for 3rd-degree criminal possession of a weapon
2 to 4
