Penn State’s Board of Trustees officially approved Monday morning the contract for Matt Campbell to become the next Nittany Lions head football coach.
In a separate university release , the terms of his contract were made public.
Campbell’s deal is for a base of eight years (through 2033) with $70.5 million guaranteed.
His first-year base compensation is $8 million, with increases of $250,000 in 2027, 2028, 2029 and 2031.
Campbell also earns a $1 million retention bonus each year of the contract.
Additionally, there are escalators attached to the contract for College Football Playoff contention. Campbell will receive an automatic extension and raise of no less than $500,000 if Penn State makes the postseason.
