Baton Rouge Police are looking for a driver and passenger who fatally struck a bicyclist Friday night, stopped at the scene briefly, then fled.

The cyclist, identified as 30-year-old Aaron Augustus Jr., died at the hospital later that night.

The crash happened at about 9:30 p.m. on the Mohican-Prescott Crossover. Investigators determined the suspect’s vehicle was traveling east toward Beechwood Drive, when it crashed into the bicyclist, who was also traveling east.

Witnesses told police that the driver and passenger stopped momentarily, but fled the scene without calling 911 or rendering aid, police said in a news release.

Augustus was transported to the hospital, where he died of his injuries.
