Portsmouth police are working to identify a suspect who jumped off the Berkley Bridge during a police chase and was found dead.

Around 6:30 a.m., police identified a stolen vehicle traveling eastbound on Route 164 toward Interstate 264, according to a release.

Police attempted to attach a GPS tracking device to the vehicle, but the effort did not work, according to the release. A police spokesperson declined to provide more information about the tracking device.

An officer continued to follow the vehicle through the Downtown Tunnel and into Norfolk until it crashed at Waterside Drive. The suspect ran from the scene and jumped off the bridge into the water, according to police. Their body was eventually located, and recovery efforts were unde
