New research has identified a major problem with pedestrian crossings in the UK, with experts calling on the government to make a change.
According to a new study, road crossings must slow down to allow people with mobility issues and older people to safely cross. The research, by the universities of Bath, Birmingham and Exeter, found the time given by pedestrians signals is more than two seconds shorter than some people need.
The study found that just 1.5 per cent of older adults with mobility problems walk fast enough at their comfortable speed to cross the road in time.
