LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A Lake Charles man has been arrested after being accused of raping a child, and a family member has also been arrested for allegedly failing to report the incident to law enforcement, according to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Spokeswoman Kayla Vincet says detectives with the Special Victims Unit were dispatched to a local elementary school on Dec. 5 after they received a report from school personnel that a student had been sexually abused.

During their investigation, detectives say the victim had told school staff that Gerson A. Espinal, 34, of Lake Charles, had touched her inappropriately on several occasions and also raped her.
