WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man was sentenced to 20 to 25 years in prison for his role in the 2023 shooting death of a man at an apartment complex and injuring another person.
Nygel Karon Cuthrell pleaded guilty Dec. 4 to second-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the death of Trevon Mitchell, according to the Forsyth County District Attorney’s Office.
The incident occurred June 10, 2023, when Cuthrell and another juvenile planned to rob a man identified as Trevon Mitchell of marijuana. Using private messages on social media, the two waited in a Winston-Salem apartment complex parking lot for Mitchell and Nassia Winfrey to approach their car.
