MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) - Police say a man sprayed a restaurant employee with pepper spray and stole a tip jar after his cards declined while paying for food.
Moline police arrested 22-year-old Shaheem McKnight in connection with the incident, according to a news release.
Officers responded to a robbery at about 1:15 p.m. Saturday at China Inn in the 3600 block of Avenue of the Cities.
Employees told police a customer, later identified as McKnight, tried to pay for food, but two of his cards were declined.
McKnight then sprayed an employee with pepper spray, took a tip jar and ran, police said.
Two employees and a customer followed McKnight. The customer told police McKnight dropped a bag with the tip jar inside on 22nd Avenue.
The customer returned the tip jar to the restaurant, police
