It’s been a rough 24 hours for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football program after the College Football Playoff committee chose to include the Miami Hurricanes in the 12-team field over them.

The decision effectively ends their season, as the Fighting Irish announced they would withdraw from the Pop-Tarts Bowl, where they were scheduled to face the BYU Cougars—another team that narrowly missed out on the CFP.

On Monday, CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported that Notre Dame quarterback Kenny Minchey is expected to enter the transfer portal after losing the preseason starting job to CJ Carr, who is expected to return to South Bend next season.
