MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) - With more families struggling to afford groceries, the City of Moline is expanding its Meals for the Holidays program for the second time this season.

The city will hand out 175 gift cards worth $220 on Saturday, with $200 funded by the city and an extra 10% contributed by new partner Fareway.

“With the delays in federal funding and the uncertainty surrounding that funding, underserved families are facing financial hardship,” said KJ Whitley, Community Development Manager for the City of Moline.

The city held its first distribution in November and handed out 125 cards. Whitley said the turnout revealed just how many households needed help.
