CLEVELAND — George Balasko, the 89-year-old Parma man facing charges in connection with a hit-and-run incident that left a mother and her 2-year-old son in March, opted to take a plea deal rather than begin his trial on Monday.

Balasko pleaded guilty to two counts of failure to stop after an accident. Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Deborah Turner sentenced him to one year of probation, one month of GPS-monitored home detention, and suspended his license for the next six years.

Balasko was accused of striking 32-year-old Shalonte Maddox and her son Genesis in the parking lot of the Marc's grocery store on West Ridgewood Drive back on March 21. Maddox told 3News she was pushing a shopping cart with her 2-year-old seated in front before they were hit by Balasko
