WASHINGTON —
The Trump administration is rolling out a $12 billion aid package for struggling farmers.
It comes as farmers are facing a range of economic challenges, including the fallout from President Donald Trump's tariffs.
During a roundtable with farmers on Monday, Trump said his policies would usher in a "golden age" for agriculture. The aid program is intended to "bridge the gap between Biden’s failures and the president’s successful policies taking effect," according to White House spokesperson Anna Kelly.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins said roughly $11 billion will go toward a newly designed Farmer Bridge Assistance program, which will offer one-time payments to row crop farmers.
