CERES, Calif. —
Dozens gathered at Whitmore Park in Ceres to remember 14-year-old Amari Peterson , who was killed nearly two weeks ago in a mass shooting in Stockton .
Tuesday night's vigil was organized by the Ceres Jr. Bulldogs football league, which Peterson played in.
"It hurts to see these kids dying," said one attendee while speaking to the crowd.
Emotions ran high as the night unfolded, and those who knew Amari hugged each other in tears, lighting candles and praying together.
Nicknamed 'Ferari Mari,' Amari's former football coaches broke down in tears as they shared their memories of him.
