LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A week after Will Stein was named Kentucky’s new head football coach , the university has released terms of his salary and buyout.

Stein has agreed to a five-year contract, making $5.5 million his first year and increasing by $100,000 annually through January 2031.

The terms of his salary are outlined in a document WHAS11 News obtained in an open records request.

If Kentucky appears in the College Football Playoff, Stein will receive an automatic one-year extension.

Stein has other performance-based incentives within his contract starting with winning seven games. The maximum bonus capped per season is $2.1 million. Many of the incentives include winning SEC titles, SEC Coach of the Year and having team grade point averages above a 3.0.
