MACHENSEY PARK, Ill. (WREX) — Back in November of this year, the Harlem School District announced a proposal to consolidate their district at their board meeting. The district announced a plan to close both Olson Park and Maple Elementary Schools, opting to split students by grade level into the three remaining elementary schools.
The district is holding a series of public meetings to gather community input before a crucial vote on consolidation plans for the next school year. The proposed plan suggests replacing the current neighborhood zoning system and closing Maple and Olson Park elementary schools. Students would attend either an East or West Side school, with different locations for each grade band: kindergarten and first grade, second and third grade, and fourth and fifth grade. T
