Temperatures have taken a downturn and will soon be the coldest they've been so far this season...which says something even though we're barely halfway through December.
Thursday will see a day in the low/mid 20s and overcast skies as our next clipper system approaches from the northwest. This system will pass us to the southwest Thursday night, keeping most of the snow southwest of Rockford.
At least flurries can be expected areawide, though any accumulating snow is more likely southwest of a Freeport to DeKalb line. Total accumulations of between one and three inches is expected locally, with the higher end of that range the farther southwest you go towards the Quad Cities.
