ROCKFORD, Ill. (WREX) — Earlier this week, legislation to rename a Rockford post office after one of their own passed through the U.S. House of Representatives. Now, those postal workers are remembering their friend and colleague.
The legislation will rename the Harrison Avenue post office after Jay Larson, the postal worker who died in the mass stabbing incident in Rockford in March of 2024. Larson was a postal worker for 25 years in Rockford.
Although there are still steps to go, postal workers at the Harrison Avenue post office said this is a great next step in remembering the life of a well-loved colleague.
Lawrence Steward is one of Larson's longtime co-workers and friends and has also been a postal worker for several years, now driving the same route Larson did when he first start
