Traffic on a stretch of the M66 has been brought to a complete standstill, with a huge crash and major flooding sparking severe delays for drivers. Motorists are being warned to expect disruption to their rush hour commutes on the major UK motorway following the incidents.
Both incidents occurred on the southbound carriageway from the A56 junction to junction 1, with the stretch of motorway closed by emergency services. Travel service Inrix said: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to flooding and accident on M66 Southbound from A56 (Ramsbottom Junction) to J1 A56 Walmersley Road (Ramsbottom)."
