GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - The Green Bay Area School District is recommending a pilot program for weapon detection.
Superintendent Vicki Bayer recommended the school board explore systems in the district’s four high schools. Right now, the plan doesn’t consider other secondary schools such as Dr. Rose Minoka-Hill or John Dewey Academy of Learning, though that could change.
Bayer adds that a detection system won’t be the only solution to improving student safety.
The recommendation comes after a student brought a loaded handgun and ammunition to Preble High School in September. The gun was found in a backpack in a classroom after the student was involved in a fight.
That led to the school district requiring clear plastic backpacks or carriers for all students in 6th grade and above.
