COLUMBIA, S.C. (WBTV) - Former Gamecock women’s basketball star A’ja Wilson was named TIME ’s 2025 Athlete of the Year on Tuesday.

Wilson, now a three-time WNBA champion with the Las Vegas Aces, has averaged 21.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per game in her professional career.

During her career at South Carolina, Wilson helped lead the team to the 2017 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship and averaged 17.3 points and 9.2 rebounds over 138 collegiate games.

Just about a year ago, Wilson had her jersey number retired during a ceremony before an NCAA college basketball game between South Carolina and Auburn in Columbia.
