Families at Cape View Elementary School are pushing back against a proposal that could close their neighborhood school and move students to another campus about 7 miles away.
“You’re not only closing a school, but you’re closing a community. You’re closing a family,” parent Heather Gulley said.
The decades-old school has long served families in Cape Canaveral, and many say shutting it down would dismantle a tight-knit community that has supported generations of students.
“It doesn’t make sense,” parent Tori Gulley said. “Our school has been here forever, and it’s been part of this community forever. People older than me, even the athletes, went to this school.”
