BISHOPVILLE, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Corrections said contraband was dropped by a drone at Lee Correctional Institution in what the agency described as an apparent attempt to deliver drugs and other items inside the prison.
An agency spokesperson said the drone dropped the items off in the early morning hours at the maximum security prison in Bishopville.
In a post on social media, SCDC said, “Seems some folks were planning an early holiday Old Bay crab boil and steak dinner along with their marijuana and cigarettes — all dropped by a drone at Lee CI.”
Law enforcement recovered the drone along with the package. The spokesperson said no arrests have been made yet.
