JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A growing number of Americans are worried they won’t be able to afford healthcare as federal tax credits expire and medical costs continue to rise.

A new Gallup poll shows nearly half of adults nationwide fear they won’t be able to pay for coverage in 2026 — the highest level of concern ever recorded by the survey.

In Jacksonville, that fear is already showing up in exam rooms.

Volunteers in Medicine, a free clinic that serves the city’s working uninsured, says more patients are turning to them because they can’t keep up with premiums, copays, or prescription costs, even if they technically have insurance.
