Decatur native Philip Rivers hasn't played in the NFL since January 2021, but that could soon change as the 44-year-old St. Michael Catholic High School football coach has signed a deal to join the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Rivers rejoins the Colts, who lost starting quarterback Daniel Jones to an Achilles tendon tear and then saw his replacement, Riley Leonard, suffer a knee injury this weekend. The future NFL Hall of Famer retired after playing the 2020-2021 season for the Colts to lead St. Michael Catholic High School's football program.

Almost two weeks ago, Rivers' St. Michael Catholic High School squad lost in the AHSAA 4A semifinals to eventual state champion Jackson High School.
