A wintry mess is expected for parts of the area with our next system bringing rain, freezing rain, and snow along with gusty winds and soon-to-be free-falling temperatures.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for Carroll, Jo Daviess, and Stephenson Counties until midnight and for Green and Rock Counties in Wisconsin until 6 a.m. Wednesday. This is where a glaze of ice due to freezing rain is most likely.

Mostly rain showers falling this evening may freeze on cold and untreated surfaces, causing patchy black ice. Be very careful if driving through the overnight hours, especially near the IL/WI state line.

After a break in the rain after midnight, winds will pick up with gusts in the 30-40 mph range, with higher gusts possible near Whiteside Co. where a Wind Advisory is in place until 9
