A woman sought support from the Reddit community following a painful financial decision that left her feeling torn between obligation and survival. What began as an exciting overseas family vacation quickly turned into a source of stress, guilt and tension with her sister.

“In February this year, my sister had planned a trip overseas for us,” the woman wrote, explaining that everyone had agreed on a large Airbnb they all loved. By September, however, she and her partner realized they could not afford flights, adding that “our finances have been extremely tight” despite their efforts to save.
