Homicide detectives in the Niagara Region said they have confirmed the identity of the human remains found in Niagara-on-the-Lake in August.
Niagara Regional Police said Tuesday that the victim has been identified as a 24-year-old Black man from Toronto who had been reported missing and was last seen in May 2022.
His name is not being released, however, at the request of the family.
Officers responded on Aug. 31 at about 2 p.m. to an unidentified remains call in the Read Rd. area near the shore of Lake Ontario in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
The initial investigation determined that a human skull had been discovered .
