There have been severe delays for drivers approaching the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge in Gloucestershire in both directions due to emergency roadworks.

Two of three lanes are closed in both directions for safely reasons on Tuesday night, December 9, to allow for emergency repairs to a number of lamp columns after safety inspections of the lighting columns on the bridge "identified an immediate risk".

"Testing found 35 columns in need of immediate removal due to risk of collapse," National Highways said.

This is an ongoing event and updates will be provided.
