Notre Dame Athletic Director Pete Bevacqua just gave everyone ammunition to use against his program for years. The Irish already looked petty for ditching bowl season after missing the College Football Playoff.

Now Bevacqua’s gone public with a conspiracy theory that the ACC deliberately sabotaged Notre Dame’s playoff chances.

Bevacqua didn’t tiptoe around it Tuesday. “We were definitely being targeted,” he said, pointing straight at the ACC’s social media operation. The conference spent weeks campaigning for Miami after the Hurricanes beat Notre Dame 27-24 back on Aug. 31. When Sunday’s rankings dropped, the committee suddenly cared about that head-to-head result for the first time all season. Miami jumped to No. 10. Notre Dame fell to No. 11. The Irish were out.
