Former Rep. TJ Cox (D–Fresno) is hoping to avoid all prison time after pleading guilty to financial fraud.

Cox, who is scheduled to be sentenced next week, is asking a federal judge to sentence him to home confinement for his crimes.

The backstory: The one-term Congressman pleaded guilty in February to Wire Fraud and Wire Fraud Affecting a Financial Institution. • He accepted a plea deal in December 2024, two years after he was arrested and indicted by a federal grand jury on 28 counts of financial fraud relating to his time with Central Valley New Market Tax Credits. • Cox illicitly obtained over $1.7 million in client payments and company loans.
