UC Merced has received the largest philanthropic gift in its history.
The university announced that it has received a $38 million commitment from MacKenzie Scott, the philanthropist ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
The big picture: UC Merced said the gift will support new spaces designed for teaching, discovery and the support of talented students from all backgrounds.
Flashback: Scott previously donated $20 million to UC Merced in 2021. That gift helped launch major advancements in student support, research capacity and campus growth, the university said.
