PEORIA COUNTY ( 25News Now ) - An Edelstein man will remain in jail before his trial on allegations that he had sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Peoria County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Taylor D. Caldwell, 27, last Saturday, Dec. 6.

A release from prosecutors said the girl’s mother told deputies her daughter snuck out of the house the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 6, then returned home about 2 a.m. the next day, and Caldwell was with her,

The girl reportedly told investigators she met Caldwell through a friend and that she communicated with him on Instagram.

The state’s attorney’s office said Caldwell confessed during an interview with deputies, and he admitted knowing she was only 14.

Caldwell appeared in court before Associate Judge Mark Gilles, who granted the state’s motion to detain
