As Iowa farmers head into another uncertain planning season following years of financial struggle, a new $12 billion federal aid package is on the way. The help is welcomed, but many producers say they still don’t know what this money will mean for their operations.
The White House announced the assistance plan Monday, describing the one-time payments as a financial bridge for farmers hit by trade disruptions, high input costs and several tough growing seasons. But many of the key details are still unknown. Farmers will not know how much they can expect until the administration releases its payment formula at the end of the month.
