Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse veteran player Chase Simmons said on social media that he plans to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal and play a sixth season of football elsewhere.

Simmons was a defensive end for the bulk of his SU career, although he also played some tight end this season. He did not play during SU’s final five games of the year.

Simmons received the bulk of his playing time at Syracuse during the 2024 season, when he played 301 snaps on defense and recorded 19 tackles.

He played just 93 snaps on defense over the course of four games this season. Simmons finished with seven tackles this season but actually had 3.5 tackles for loss, which tied for seventh-most on the team.
