GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (WBAY) - Residents across the Fox Valley donated blood Tuesday as the Community Blood Center works to address critical shortages ahead of an incoming winter storm.
The blood center is experiencing low supplies of A-negative and O blood types, though all blood types are needed, officials said.
Dave Streck of Appleton was among donors who visited the center Tuesday.
“It’s something I can do. You know, it’s not difficult. It’s only time. I’m retired. So, every couple months, I try to come out and help out,” Streck said.
Blood shortages typically occur during summer and winter months. During colder seasons, some people avoid leaving their homes, according to blood center officials.
One in seven people who enter hospitals will need a blood transfusion, the center said.
