Last month, Rep. Nydia Velázquez decided to retire ahead of next year’s midterm elections .
But the race to succeed Velázquez is quickly taking shape.
Antonio Reynoso was the first candidate to jump into the contest last week.
He is looking to represent New York’s 7th Congressional District, which includes neighborhoods including Long Island City in Queens to Bushwick in Brooklyn.
But the current Brooklyn borough president could potentially face an opponent backed by the growing democratic socialist movement.
