EASLEY, S.C. —
On Monday night, Easley's city council voted to adopt an "acceptable use policy" that sets guidelines for elected officials' use of personal social media when they identify themselves as elected officials.
The policy does not prohibit officials from using personal social media accounts but includes a rule against using them to harass, threaten, discriminate, or disparage other elected officials or anyone associated with the city.
The city's attorney said the policy does not violate First Amendment rights.
