ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - If you’ve parked in downtown Roanoke, you’ve likely used one of the city’s parking garages.

Until this week, drivers had to press a button to get a ticket and open a gate.

But on Monday, the city activated a gateless parking system designed to simplify entry and exit.

The new system removes the physical ticket-and-gate step. Instead, drivers follow three simple steps:

Park your vehicle.

Scan the QR code posted in the garage.

Fill out the required information and complete payment.

Once those steps are complete, you can leave whenever you’re ready — there is no need to retrieve a paper ticket or raise a gate to exit.

The most visible change is at garage entrances: drivers no longer need to press a button or take a ticket to enter.
