MIDDLETON, Wis. (WKOW) -- The city of Middleton is reminding residents about proper garbage and recycling cart placement this winter to help crews collect safely and keep roads, sidewalks, and stormwater paths clear.
Residents should place carts on a flat, cleared surface in their driveway or at the end of the driveway a few feet from the street. Carts should have at least 2 feet of clearance from snowbanks, mailboxes, vehicles, or other obstacles, with the handles facing the house.
Carts should not be placed on top of snowbanks, in the street, on sidewalks, or buried behind snow piles. They should also avoid blocking traffic or pedestrian access.
Even small adjustments in placement can make a big difference for plow drivers and collection crews, especially during heavy snow and ice.
