CLEVELAND, Ohio — A suspect was taken into custody at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on Sunday evening after making threatening statements about activity there.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Department alerted Cleveland police that a man was experiencing a mental health crisis at the airport, according to airport officials.
Cleveland officers located and detained the suspect on an escalator leading to the ticketing level, officials said.
The man did not have a weapon inside the airport, but authorities later discovered a loaded handgun inside his vehicle on airport property.
Police did not release specific details about the threat or the suspect’s identity.
The suspect was taken to a hospital for a psychological evaluation, airport authorities said.
