MADISON, Wis. (WBAY) - A bill being reintroduced in Madison on Tuesday aims to give new parents more time with their newborns.

If passed, it would give Wisconsin families 12 to 14 weeks of paid parental or medical leave.

The proposal needs GOP support to eventually reach the governor’s desk.

The proposal includes establishing a family and medical leave insurance program; family leave to care for family members; new rules requiring employers to allow employees to take leave; and allowing local governments to create ordinances requiring those employers to provide leave benefits.
