BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University quarterback Fernando Mendoza says he’s grateful — and focused — as he heads into one of the biggest weekends of his career.
After leading IU football to a perfect 13–0 season and the program’s first Big Ten championship, Mendoza’s rise has continued with a spot as a Heisman Trophy finalist. He spoke with reporters Tuesday about what the honor means to him and the community.
“It means so much for my family. It means so much to the team, especially having the opportunity to hopefully bring home the first Heisman in Indiana history,” Mendoza said. “It means so much to so many people, so I think it's a great pat on the back for everybody here in Bloomington.”
Mendoza said watching his name announced on TV is a moment he will always remember, but it did
